Hernandez Found "GUILTY" of Murder
Today, the jury has come to a unanimous decision in the trial of Aaron Hernandez, 25, now former tight end for the New England Patriots. Hernandez was on trial for the murder of Odin Lloyd, friend and former semi-pro football player in 2013. He kept a calm demeanor while the verdict was being read but, his family (mainly his fiancee' & mother) on the other hand, filled the room with sobs aand tears. While the verdict was being read. You see Hernandez take several glances back looking at his family, maybe realizing this may be the last moments to see his family in what is now considered to him the "free world". Yes, all jurors agreed. to the below verdicts:
First Degree Murder Extreme Atrocity or Cruelty
Unlawful Possesion of a firearm- Guilty
Unlawful Possession of Ammunition- Guilty
His Sentence? Life Without Parole.
Im wondering if this entire trial will have some affect on the background searches that the NFL will start taking when offering contracts to these young athletes. Hernandez was a Round 4 Draft Pick for the New England Patriots in 2010. To be arrested 3 years later for the murder of Odin. During the trial additional murders surfaced against Hernandez, this trial alone had over 100 witnesses and although defense is saying all evidence is "circumstantial", it all assisted in the conviction of this young star who unfortunately has lost it all, including, His Life.
(Click for NBC News Video) The jurors were able to speak after court and they felt that they made the right decision in finding Hernandez Guilty. A mixed jury of hispanic and white, the jurors seemed to be relieved that the trial was over. Although over for them, it is definitely not over for Hernandez who also has a pending trial in Boston for the murder of 2 males outside of a nightclub.
Hearing the verdict being read there are several things to consider. Neither side wins in this case. Odin's mother, Ursula Ward, speaks out and she forgives all hands involved. She will miss her son telling her "Happy Father's Day" beause she was the mother and father to Odin. On the other side, Hernandez has not only lost his life and family, but has not had a chance to live 1/4 of his time as a NFL star, living his dreams, changing the lives of many and having the opportunity to even change his life for the better as well. All these goals shattered and continue to get worse. My prayers are with both of these families.
